Inside Lacrosse Power Poll
Rank Team W L Commentary
1 Johns Hopkins 2 0 9 first place votes. No nailbiter this time in rout of Princeton. This week: Albany and Hofstra.
2 Maryland 2 0 4 first place votes. Apparently Terps have no problem scoring. 17 against Duke with Towson next.
3 Syracuse 2 0 Who needs defense? Crockett drops six in smacking of UVa. Big Thur. night game against undefeated Irish.
4 Rutgers 2 0 Coasted to 2-0 with win over Delaware. St. Joe's and Quinnipiac this week.
5 Princeton 1 1 Boyle and Doneger were very stoppable against Hopkins making Tigers very mortal. Desperate Virginia is next.
6 Georgetown 1 1 Got back on right track with statement win over Cornell. Open ECAC play with Penn State on Saturday.
7 Duke 2 1 Duke's young offense couldn't keep up with Maryland. Another test looms in Loyola on Saturday.
8 Notre Dame 1 0 Statement: Irish drop 17 goals on Penn State. They're not sneaking up on anybody, especially not Cuse on Thursday.
9 North Carolina 1 1 Not again. After a big win over UMass, Heels have bigtime letdown in OT loss to Navy.
10 Massachusetts 2 1 Two straight wins over softies SB and Hart help UMass back into top 10. Harvard at home on Saturday.
11 Hofstra 1 1 Bounced back with big comeback win over Loyola. We'll see what the Pride do against Hopkins.
12 Denver 3 0 No joke. Denver is still undefeated and ranked ahead of UVa. Big test Tues. against UNC.
13 Loyola 1 1 Converse to the opener, Loyola looked unimpressive falling to Hofstra. Can get back on track against Mount (Tue) and Duke (Sat).
14 Virginia 1 3 Wow! Upset victims twice in one weekend. Then the Hoos get drilled by Cuse. No cupcake, Princeton is next.
15 Cornell 1 1 The Red running and gunning? That ended quickly in a lackadaisical effort against G-Town. Stony Brook is next.
16 Navy 2 1 Big OT win over UNC puts Navy back on track. Another tough game against Bucknell on Saturday.
17 Towson 1 1 Beating PC helped right Towson's ship. Can the keep it going against the 2nd ranked Terps.
18 Army 1 1 Beat previously undefeated AF in OT with late comeback. Patriot Legaue foe Holy Cross is up next.
19 UMBC 1 1 Got a big overtime win against Ohio State on Saturday. Should have no problem against Hartford this weekend.
20 Air Force 2 1 Couldn't make it three straight in OT loss to Army. But the Falcons are for real, and can prove it UNC on Thurs.

Lax Swami's Top 16 (March 9, 2004)

1. Maryland

Undefeated Maryland is the sole most deserving team for the #1 spot.

2. Syracuse

The Cruisers performance against Army and Virginia could have been better.

3. Johns Hopkins

The Blue Jays have no real quality wins yet, and a close game with Penn removes them from #1 consideration.

4. Rutgers

Undefeated Rutgers will not get into the tough part of its schedule for several weeks.

5. Notre Dame

A very convincing win over Penn State confirms that Notre Dame is back.

6. Georgetown

A redemptive win over Cornell does not erase an ugly loss to Maryland.

7. Duke

A three goal margin over unranked UMBC doesn't do much for the Devils.

8. Cornell

Comes from behind to defeat Hofstra.

9. Hofstra

A three goal loss to Cornell and one goal win over Loyola puts Hofstra in the 9 spot.

10. Loyola

Does win the must-win over Towson, loses by a goal to Hofstra.

11. (tie) Army

A credible performance against Syracuse is offset by a narrow win over Air Force.

11 .(tie) Navy

North Carolina win averaged with Ohio State loss.

13. North Carolina

Defeats unranked UMass, and loses to Navy.

14. Princeton

Has to come from behind to beat Quinnipiac.

15. UMBC

Averaged for a narrow win over Ohio State and a three goal loss to Duke.

16. Denver

A 9-7 win over Virginia boosts the Pioneers, but how good are the Wahoos?

This week's most meaningful games to rankers: North Carolina at Notre Dame, Penn at Army, Duke at Loyola, Notre Dame at Syracuse.
