The first regular season USLIA Top 25 Poll Presented by
Shamrock Lacrosse keeps the Sonoma State Seawolves on
top. Shamrock Lacrosse, an innovative lacrosse company
based in Hillside, New Jersey is the presenting sponsor
for the 2003 Top 25 poll announced bimonthly on USLIA.com.
The defending USL MDIA National Champions Seawolves received
18 (out of a possible 30) first place votes in the poll.
Sonoma State has started the season with 4 straight victories,
but they survived a scare on opening day when they escaped
with a one goal victory at Chico State. Sonoma plays Stanford
and Michigan in the next week as they attempt to hang
on to the top spot.
Two rival teams from the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate
Lacrosse League (RMILL) grabbed the next two spots in
the poll – Colorado State and BYU. Colorado State
opened with a road victory over Arizona last weekend and
the Rams face state rival Colorado this weekend. BYU opened
their season with three victories last weekend in Texas.
Two more league rivals secured spots four and five in
the poll – UC-Santa Barbara (3-0) & Arizona
(2-1). The Gauchos have opened with three straight league
victories while Arizona fell at home by one goal to #
2 Colorado State last Saturday. UCSB hosts Arizona State
this Saturday while Arizona has the weekend off.
Michigan got the 6th spot in the poll. The Wolverines
open their season this weekend in California with games
at Southern California and Whittier College (NCAA Div.
3 Varsity) before battling UCSB next Wednesday and Sonoma
State next Saturday.
Texas A&M (6-1), Stanford (2-0), Simon Fraser (1-0),
and Virginia Tech (0-0) round out the top 10. Teams new
to the Top 25 Poll were Chico State (21st place, 136 pts)
and Florida State (25th place, 70 pts). The next USLIA
Top 25 Poll Presented by Shamrock Lacrosse will be announced
on USLIA.com on Wednesday, March 5th
