Unique and useful recruiting tool for high school lacrosse players and college coaches

by Gerald Goulder, editor, YouthLacrosseUSA.com

Last week YLUSA.com interviewed Christopher Deutsch editor and founder of what will become the premier lacrosse recruiting publication in the USA. YLUSA.com has reviewed this year's Lax Scout and we can tell our readers that Lax Scout is the new lacrosse recruiting bible.

Having a good idea is one thing. Being able to take a concept and turn it into both a viable business model and a useful product that adds something to the marketplace is talent. Deutsch's team has shown tremendous ingenuity and business capabilities in Lax Scout. They have also developed an honestly helpful aid to the high school and college lacrosse communities.

Lax Scout is developing a network of lacrosse recruiters who scout high school players who want to be scouted and add their scouting report to the player profile in the publication. Only lacrosse players need apply to be a Lax Scout recruiting scout. Current scouts include: Mike Abeles (goalie coach at Phoenix's Chaparral HS and former MLL and NLL professional lax player, All-American and "Goalie of the Century" when he played at Ohio State), Steve Connor (former assistant coach at Whittier College where he was a league all-star and three-time defensive MVP), Dan Lannon (three-time National Champion at Syracuse), Craig Bubier (three-time All-American, three-time National Champion at Hopkins), George Camarra (standout defenseman at Ohio State), Nick Goater (captain and all-conference defenseman at Union College), Albin Haglund (former coach at University of Denver, Arizona State, Arapahoe HS in Colorado, Notre Dame Jesuit HS (Phoenix), 2002 USA Stars Grandmaster Team, and a National Champion at Cornell), Mark Parmenter (All-American and Academic All-American at Illinois), Manny Rapkin (former assistant HS coach at Desert Mountain HS in Arizona and Clarkstown HS in New York), Jason Silkey (coach of 2002 Arizona State Champion Chaparral HS, former assistant and player at Boston College), Kyle Valkenburg (former coach Elizabethtown HS [PA.]), Lee Williams (played at Towson State), and Christian Cook (big lacrosse bully who should never have been handed a long stick, three-time National Champion and two-time All-American at Princeton, 2002 MLL Defenseman of the Year), among others. The other scouts are former college lacrosse players and coaches who are added as Lax Scout Scouts as new geographic areas are added for next year's publication.

Example of Scout Report in 2003 Lax Scout publication

All of the Lax Scout team of professional scouts are obviously highly qualified and they enter agreements with Lax Scout attesting to the fact that their reports are unbiased and represent their subject's skills as accurately as possible. The professional lax scout reports are edited for length and evaluated by the Scouting Coordinator, Scouting Director and Lax Scout's CEO. It is Lax Scout's policy not to release the name of the scout that evaluated a particular student.

The Lax Scout player profile also includes a Coach's Report which contain comments by the player's high school coach. Coach's comments are received directly from the coach to ensure reliability and are only edited for length when necessary.

Player Profiles in Lax Scout are also listed by player position in listing with all players recruited by position.

Lax Scout also includes some interesting articles including interviews with former college and professional lacrosse players and a high school lacrosse coach.

For their initial publication as a market test Lax Scout portends well for high school players who want to play in college whether its on a club team, or in a D-III, D-II, or D-1program.

Lax Scout's Mission Statement reads: "Our mission is to help students, regardless of playing ability, find a collegiate lacrosse program that is consistent with their performance objectives. We want to help students leverage their physical talents so that they may continue their athletic careers while pursuing their academic goals in college."
