Atwell propels Southern in OT; more results (The Capital Gazette--Annapolis)

Southern's boys lacrosse team posted a 7-6 overtime triumph Arundel last night.

Junior midfielder Bobby Atwell scored three goals and handed out two assists to lead the Bulldogs.

Brad Smith followed with a pair of goals and Steve Witt had a goal and an assist for Southern.

Brooks Korvin had two goals and Brian Haas scored a goal and assisted on three others for the Wildcats.

Trevor McCulloch-Faber added two goals and Wyatt Marshall and Andrew Kim each had single goals for Key.

AACS 7, PALLOTTI 5: Shawn McCuen, Kevin Thomas and Joel Derechinsky scored two goals each as the Eagles recovered from a very slow offensive start to get the win on the road.

Cal Napolitano had a goal and three assists for Annapolis Area Christian, which after a shot off the opening faceoff did not have possession of the ball again until the final minute of the first quarter.

"We just never had the ball and the defense did an excellent job keeping things from getting out of hand," AACS coach Dick Bitzer said.

Brian Janssens made 14 saves in goal for AACS.

ANNAPOLIS 8, OLD MILL 4: Senior midfielder Aidin Gogerdchi led a balanced Annapolis attack with two goals and an assist for the Panthers (6-1).

Junior goalkeeper Landry Bennett paced the Panthers' defensive effort with 10 saves. Annapolis overcame a 2-0 deficit to take a 5-2 lead at halftime and extended their margin in the second half, with the Patriots (3-6) never coming closer than three goals.

Junior midfielder Alex Hopmann added two goals for Annapolis, while senior midfielder Matt Rozanski led Old Mill with three goals.

NORTH COUNTY 15, GLEN BURNIE 7: Joe Wojciechowski had another stellar offensive performance, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists as the Knights prevailed on the road.

Zack Jacobs added three goals for North County, followed by Greg Tyzack with two goals and three assists and Kyle Murray with two goals and two assists. Justin Dixon contributed two goals.

William Frye had three goals to lead the Gophers.

BOYS' LATIN 9, ST. MARY'S 4: Will Dalton, Pat Haley, Pat Hansen and Garrett Stanwick scored for top-ranked St. Mary's, which struggled defensively in the first quarter in the loss to the host Lakers.

The Saints (7-4) failed to clear the ball four times in the first quarter, leading to Boys' Latin goals.

"With any talented team, you cannot give those types of opportunities up and not expect to be scored upon," St. Mary's coach Matt Hogan said. "They just held us down defensively the rest of the way. There is just no way you can spot Boys' Latin a four-goal lead early."

LOYOLA 14, SPALDING 4: Ryan Douglas, Adam Marsh, Casey O'Connor and Mac O'Brien each scored goals, but the Cavaliers lost big.

Kyle Fortman and Freddie Cassilly each had assists and Matt Antonelli stopped 11 shots for the Cavaliers.

Brock Spilker had two goal and an assist and Craig Sturgeon had a pair of goals for Chesapeake. Brent Woolford scored four goals to lead the Eagles.
