Same old same old in B and C
May 26, 2004
Class B- No. 2 Shoreham-Wading
River vs. No. 1 Comsewogue (4:30 p.m.); Class C- No. 2
Mt. Sinai vs. No. 1 Babylon (7:30 p.m.)
BY CHRIS ANTONACCI, Newsday
The same two games at the same site. So much for parity
in this world.
The Suffolk Class B and C boys lacrosse finals on Wednesday
offer the same two matchups at Ward Melville as last
season. Of course, the results might alter. The Long
Island championships are June 1 at Hofstra.
Class B
No. 2 Shoreham-Wading River vs. No. 1 Comsewogue (4:30
p.m.): Before looking into the future, understand the
history. This is a rematch of the 2003 final, when Shoreham
took its third straight crown and ended Comsewogue's
streak of seven straight Suffolk titles. Both teams
won state titles in 2002, when Comsewogue was the Class
B champ and Shoreham the Class C winner. Comsewogue
(17-0) won the regular-season meeting, 9-5. Kevin Unterstein,
Michael Unterstein and Lee Schaknowski lead Shoreham
(15-2), which lost in the state semifinals last season.
John Mecionis, Ryan Hughes and Keith Henderson look
to put Comsewogue back on top. Comsewogue is one of
two unbeaten Suffolk teams.
Class C
No. 2 Mt. Sinai vs. No. 1 Babylon (7:30 p.m.): Babylon
(10-7) has not played since May 13. Mt. Sinai (11-6)
won a semifinal game against No. 3 Bayport-Blue Point
on May 19. Mt. Sinai lost the 2003 final but beat Babylon
in the regular season on May 11. Chris Ritchie could
carry third-year program Mt. Sinai to its first title.
Goalie John Goytia could come up big for Babylon.
