Commitment to US and Canadian high school laxers: help them find a college lacrosse program, club or team, that is consistent with their performance objectives
by Gerald Goulder, Editor, YouthLacrosseUSA.com

Chris Deutsch is your ordinary high school lax coach. There isn't anything he wouldn't do to help his players. On the field he brings in top national professional and college players to help coach his team. Off the field he will start a business venture if he thinks it will fill a niche in helping lax players match their skills with a desire to continue to play lacrosse.

Deutsch is the kind of lacrosse player who takes his lax playing drive to the coaches box. He has coached at Scottsdale's (Arizona) Chaparral High School for five years where the team's record reflects four state championship appearances and has won two state titles ('99 and '02).

Deutsch knows what he's talking about, too. Aside from his successful business and coaching careers Deutsch played lacrosse at Vassar College where he was captain of the lacrosse team (and all-star selection on the rugby team).

"Many high school players are unaware of the opportunities to play in college whether that means a top NCAA program, a burgeoning new upstart, or a club team," says Deutsch. Others agree. MLL 2002 Defenseman of the Year, Christian Cook, himself an All-American and national champion laxer at Princeton, says of Lax Scout, "Lax Scout is the most impressive recruiting service I have seen. Their magazine style format presents the students in the best possible manner to college lacrosse coaches. Lax Scout would have been helpful while I was in high school in Denver."

Lax Scout is a coach focused publication. Deutsch mailed this year's magazine to over 225 lacrosse coaches from NCAA Division 1, 2 and 3, junior college and club programs. "One of our goals is to create a recruiting service specifically to help coaches fund players that can make a material impact on their programs' future success. Coaches get the magazine, contact information on the players, mailing labels to communicate to the players and two crucial student views. Coaches get the general student listing of essential quantitative athletic and academic data on all students in the report," explains Deutsch.

"Our mission is to help students regardless of playing ability, find a collegiate program that is consistent with their objectives. We want to help students leverage their physical talents so that they may continue their athletic careers while pursuing their academic goals in college," says a passionate Deutsch. "Listen, the top 205 will be found by the coaches of the top 20 programs in the country. But as lacrosse continues to grow in players and geographic scope there are a lot of college varsity and club programs and junior college programs that are looking for players...and a lot of players that would like the opportunity to continue to play lacrosse while getting their college education," adds Deutsch.

But what really separates Lax Scout from every other recruiting service are the Scouting Reports. Deutsch is building a network of lax scouts who compile scouting reports on the players listed in his Premium Plan. Coaches aren't asked to rely on what the player himself submits. rather, they get an independent lacrosse scouting report in the player.

The Lax Scouts are highly qualified lacrosse players and coaches in their own right, too. And who better to provide recruiting advice to lax players than top quality professional and college players who themselves went through the recruiting process, and many of whom now coach at the high school level. Scouts filing scouting reports include:

Christian Cook, High School lacrosse Coach at Potomac High School in Virginia and (well, you know Christian's lax vitae);

George Camarra, Ohio State Defenseman;

Mike Abeles, who played in the MLL (Boston Cannons), the NLL (the peripetetic Landsharks),was an All American and "Goalie of the Century" at Ohio State;

Dan Lannon, three-time National Champion at Syracuse;

Craig Bubier, three-time National Champion at Hopkins, Team USA;

and an ever-growing national list of lacrosse players who have played in D1,2 and 3 college programs, and coached at many, as well, who are filing scouting reports on players in Lax Scout.

"I see Lax Scout as a great companion piece to Face Off magazine," says Deutsch.

Lax Scout is growing its base of lax scouts and if you are interested in be a scout contact Chris Deutsch.
