May 19, 1004
Bayhawks Announce 2004 Roster
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore Bayhawks of Major
League Lacrosse (MLL) have set their 30-man roster for
the upcoming 2004 League season, it has been announced
by Bayhawks General Manager Jay Pivec.
17 of last year’s 23 players return to the team
for 2004 after guiding the Bayhawks to their third straight
National Division championship and their third New Balance
MLL Championship berth in three seasons, including attackmen
Mark Millon and Tom Marechek.
Midfielders Josh Sims and Jake Bergey will begin the
year on the League’s Non-Lacrosse Inactive List
after suffering injuries during the 2003-2004 National
Lacrosse League (indoor) season. Sims played in seven
games last season for the Bayhawks, while Bergey saw
limited action last year after suffering an injury during
the indoor season.
This year’s opening week roster includes 13 new
players to the team, including attackman Sean Radebaugh,
who returns to Baltimore after sitting out last year
due to retirement. He was obtained by the Bayhawks in
a trade that sent midfielder Ryan Moran to the Philadelphia
Barrage. Midfielder Jarred Testa also makes a return
to Baltimore after sitting out last season. He played
for the Bayhawks during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
The Bayhawks also welcome midfielder Bobby Benson to
the roster after being obtained from the Boston Cannons
on May 6 in exchange for Baltimore’s fifth round
selection in the 2005 Collegiate Draft. Benson played
in four games for the Cannons last year and scored two
goals.
The Bayhawks will carry four goalkeepers on the roster
this year, who will have the task of filling the shoes
of former Baltimore netminder Greg Cattrano, who was
dealt to Philadelphia on October 13, 2003. Of the four
goalkeepers on the roster, only Erik Miller and John
Horrigan have MLL playing experience. Each played in
one game during last season for Baltimore. Former Johns
Hopkins University netminder Rob Scherr was on the Barrage
roster during last season, but did not see any game
action in 2003. Meanwhile, Bucknell alum Justin Sussman
makes the Bayhawks roster for the start of the season
and will probably make the opening night start against
Rochester on Saturday, becoming the first player other
than Cattrano to start a game between the pipes in Bayhawks
history.
The Bayhawks open the 2004 season in Seattle, Washington
on Saturday night, when the Bayhawks take on the Rochester
Rattlers at 11:00 p.m. in Seahawks Stadium. Baltimore
opens its home schedule on May 27, hosting the Boston
Cannons at Johnny Unitas Stadium ® at Towson University
with game time set for 7:00 p.m.

Long Island Lizards Announce 23-Man Roster
The Long Island Lizards announced their official 23-man
roster today, following the final weekend of training
camp. 18 players -- the entire core of the 2003 World
Championship team -- are back on the 2004 roster, as
the Lizards look to defend their Championship under
new Head Coach Vinnie Sombrotto. Key returnees for the
Lizards include League MVP Jay Jalbert, Goaltender of
the Year Brian Dougherty, and Championship Game MVP
Kevin Lowe, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime
of the 2003 Final.
A.J. Haugen, Tim Goettelmann and Chris Massey return
on the Lizards offense as well. Haugen is back after
a career-best year, with 26 goals and 8 assists, but
all eyes are on Goettelmann after he scored a league-record
nine goals in one game last season. Massey was an unsung
hero in 2003, scoring 21 goals in only ten games.
The Lizards defense is led by Team Captain Pat McCabe,
who has started every game in Lizards history. McCabe
is joined by Four-Time MLL All-Star John Gagliardi,
and the young trio of Brandon Testa, David Kelly and
Damien Davis.
Some of the new faces on the Lizards roster include
Mike Hammer, a rookie midfielder from Georgetown, as
well as Andrew Wasik, a four-time All-American at Pace
University. Also cracking the Lizards 23-man roster
is veteran defensemen Bob Errante.
The World Champion Lizards kick off the 2004 season
on Saturday, when they take on the Boston Cannons at
Boston University’s Nickerson Field. Long Island
Lizards home games are played at Mitchel Athletic Complex
in Uniondale, NY. Individual game and season tickets
are now on sale. For more information, call 1-866-LIZARD-1
or visit longislandlizards.com.
The 23-man roster is attached, and will be available
with full player profiles on longislandlizards.com later
this week. The Lizards will practice on Friday night
(location TBD). Media is encouraged to attend. The Lizards
home opener is next Thursday, May 27th, 7:30 PM, at
Mitchel Field, against the New Jersey Pride. Please
contact me as soon as possible if you need a credential
and parking pass.
Head Coach Vinnie Sombrotto, and midfielder A.J. Haugen
will be featured tonight on News 12 Long Island. The
segment will air every hour starting at approximately
5:52 PM.

Pride Official 2004 Roster Set
MONTCLAIR, NJ – The New Jersey Pride, New Jersey's
professional outdoor lacrosse team, announced today
it's official 2004 30-player roster. The team has several
new faces, including several former New Jersey products.
The most notable addition to the roster is midfielder
Adam Doneger, acquired in a trade with the Rochester
Rattlers last week. Doneger was the MLL 2003 Cascade
Rookie of the Year, scoring 26 goals and a pair of two-pointers.
Other newcomers include Jason Lavey (attack, Delaware
2001), Jack Lingo (midfield, Virginia Wesleyan 2001),
Nick Schmidt (midfield, Rutgers 2003), Matt Alexander
(midfield, Syracuse 1999), Neil Adams (defense, Towson
2003), Matt Trevenen (attack, (Montclair, HS) Princeton
2003) and Frank Luciano (defense, (Mt. Lakes, HS) Maryland
2003).
Lavey will provide depth to an attack corps that is
without the services of Jon Hess, who retired following
last season. Lingo will serve as one of two main face-off
midfielders for the Pride along with veteran Joe Ghedina.
Schmidt will add instant offense with his blinding speed
and incredibly accurate shooting. Alexander is a solid
veteran defender who has played for two seasons in Major
League Lacrosse for the Philadelphia Barrage. Adams
is a quick defender who can take the ball away, and
being a former attackman in college can score in transition.
Trevnen is a shifty attackman that can provide some
quick scoring punch and Luciano is a big defender who
can also play long stick midfield. (see the complete
Pride 2004 roster on the next page).
Returning to the Pride is captain Jesse Hubbard, Major
League Lacrosse's all-time leading goal scorer. Joining
him on attack is Scott Urick, the league's third all-time
leading scorer. The midfield is led by Dave Curry, a
four-year veteran and Austin Garrison, a graduate of
North Carolina in 2003.
Defensively, the Pride are anchored by goalie Trevor
Tierney, a 2001 graduate of Princeton. In front of Tierney
are Ryan McClay and Christian Cook, the 2002 MLL Defenseman
of the Year.
The Pride will play four home games at Montclair State
University in Northern New Jersey, a fifth at Mercer
County Park in West Windsor, NJ and a sixth “home”
contest at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver as a
part of the league's Wild West Tour.
To purchase tickets for any Pride home games contact
the Pride offices at (973) 686-9500.
