(Rochester, NY)… Rochester Rattlers General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Rattlers have acquired midfielder Brent Rothfuss and the rights to attackman Gavin Prout from the Boston Cannons in exchange for Pat Myers and a fourth-round pick in the 2005 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft.
The deal allows Rothfuss, a Penfield, NY, native, a chance to play for the hometown Rattlers. The 6-0, 195-pound midfielder has spent the last two seasons with the Cannons. In his career, he has registered 31 goals, three assists and 34 points in 27 games.

Rothfuss played his college lacrosse at Nazareth College and was a three-time All-American. He was the 1997 Division III Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year. He also won Midfielder of the Year in 1996. During his career with the Golden Flyers, Nazareth won national championships in 1996 and 1997.

The 29 year old returns to the city where he began his National Lacrosse league career. Rothfuss played for the Rochester Knighthawks in 1998 and 1999 and recorded four points (3+1) in four games. He also spent time with the Buffalo Bandits and Columbus Landsharks.

Rochester also received the rights to attackman Gavin Prout. The forward lives in Toronto and has been playing with the Brooklin Redmen of the Ontario Lacrosse Association. He currently leads the Canadian senior box lacrosse league with 40 points (15+25) in five games. This past season in the National Lacrosse League, he finished third in the league with 91 points (34+57) in 16 games with the Colorado Mammoth. He earned Second Team All-Pro honors in the process. In addition, he earned All-Rookie Team accolades in 2001-02.

Prout played his college lacrosse at Mercyhurst College, Gannon University and Loyola College. He was a Division I First Team All-American in 2001 with the Loyola College Greyhounds and a Third Team selection in 2000.

For Rothfuss and Prout, the Rattlers dealt rookie Pat Myers (Ohio State) to the Cannons. Myers played in one game this season with Rochester and notched one goal and one assist on May 22nd.

In college, he was a two-time All-Great Western Lacrosse League honoree, including a first team choice as a senior. The 2000 GWLL Rookie of the Year (an Ohio State first) ended his Buckeye career with 61 goals, 28 assists and 89 points.

Rochester travels to play the 2-1 Baltimore Bayhawks on Sunday, June 13th at 4:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and webcast on SportsJuice.com.
