continues to expand its team of lacrosse scouts and
recruiting services

One of the more exciting and innovative elements in
the lacrosse community this past season has been the
establishment of Lax
Scout and the leading national high school lacrosse
recruiting tool in the USA.
Lax
Scout first published only last season. The publication
is dedicated to helping high school student-athletes
gain widespread exposure to college lacrosse coaches
primarily through its innovative lacrosse scouting program.
Lax
Scout is developing a growing team of highly qualified
lacrosse scouts who view and report on their clients'
games and quality of play.
Its 2003 publication was distributed to over 200 college
lacrosse coaches in all 3 Divisions and club coaches.
The 2003 report featured students from 16 states and
Canada. The publication features high school freshmen,
sophomores and juniors who seek not only to augment
their marketing visibility with college lacrosse programs,
but to also develop an understanding of what type of
college lacrosse circumstance may be best for them.
The 2004 Lax Scout report is currently being compiled
for publication and distribution.
The Lax
Scout scouts are former All-Americans, former national
champions, former college coaches and other skilled
lacrosse players who also have the ability to evaluate
high school players' potential as college lacrosse players
at the various levels of the college lacrosse game.
An example of Lax
Scout scouts includes its most recent scout former
MLL and NCAA coach Ted Garber.
Coach Garber joins Lax
Scout as the new Scouting Coordinator for Connecticut.
His primary responsibilities include promoting Lax Scout's
services to the lacrosse community, establishing relationships
with high school and college coaches and growing the
scouting team within the state.
In addition to his new position with Lax Scout, Garber
is the Athletic Director and Head Coach at Avon Old
Farms, one of the nation's elite prep schools. Garber
played lacrosse at the University of New Hampshire in
the 70's where he was the leading scorer as a freshman,
and captain his senior year. After completing his playing
career at UNH as a student-athlete, Garber returned
to the program as the Head Coach for more than a decade
and was named New England Coach of the Year in 1986.
He led the team to its first ever NCAA Division I tournament
game, which was against his father Dick Garber who at
the time was the Head Coach of the University of Massachusetts.
After leaving UNH in the early 90's, he followed his
father's footsteps and took the helm at UMass where
he made two NCAA tournament appearances and was named
Coach of the Year in 1993.
While at UMass, he coached several All-Americans, including
Mark Millon, who was recently the MVP of Major League
Lacrosse and currently one of the premiere players for
the Baltimore Bayhawks. Garber was a Head Coach during
the MLL's inaugural Showcase Tour in 2000 and subsequently
for the Bridgeport Barrage. Garber added, "I joined
Lax Scout because they are offering players at all levels
of ability the opportunity to be evaluated and scouted
for collegiate play, which is great for the students
as well as for the growth of lacrosse at both the regional
and national levels."
Lax Scout's stated mission is to help student-athletes
find a collegiate lacrosse program that is consistent
with their athletic and academic objectives. Lax Scout
achieves this goal through its annual publication, the
High School Lacrosse Recruiting Report. In 2003 the
publication was distributed to over 200 college lacrosse
coaches including all NCAA Division I and II teams.
The report featured students from 16 states and Canada.
Lax Scout is sponsored by some of the most recognized
names in lacrosse including Cascade, Great Atlantic
and Warrior. Lax Scout's staff includes current and
former members of Team USA, the Baltimore Bayhawks,
the New Jersey Pride, the Boston Cannons, the Bridgeport
Barrage and the Columbus Landsharks and includes graduates
and former coaches from collegiate programs including
Princeton, Syracuse, Johns Hopkins, UMass, Ohio State,
UMBC, Towson, UNH, Essex, Lehigh, Nazareth, Whittier,
Herkimer and North Carolina.

Lax
Scout continues to grow its base of scouts as it
expands into new geographic regions. According to its
website the ideal lax scout candidate will have (these
are not all required):
- A tremendous passion for lacrosse
- Available time to attend high school lacrosse games
during the week or on weekends, or ideally both
- Played high school lacrosse
- Played college lacrosse at a highly competitive
program
- Garnered recognition while in college (i.e. team
captain, All-Conference, All-American, etc.)
- Possibly played at the professional level
- Possibly coached at the youth or collegiate levels
- Connections and relationships with other members
of the local and/or national lacrosse community.
The scout's main responsibility is to attend high
school lacrosse games in their area and watch students
that have signed up for the Lax Scout service. Scouts
then report on the students they have scouted by answering
a detailed scouting report that Lax Scout provides.
Scouts will only evaluate one or two students at a given
scouting event. We do this to ensure the most accurate
assessment for students that use our service. Scouts
are paid based on the number of students that they scout.
Scouting Coordinators help assign and coordinate scouts
in their local areas. They also assist Lax Scout's Director
of Scouting with finding new scouts, getting new students
assigned to scouts, training scouts and often scout
students as well.
Lax Scout is currently looking for scouts and scouting
coordinators to fill positions throughout the United
States and Canada. They are looking for former DI (or
top level DII and DIII) players that would like to scout
high schools boy's for Lax Scout's annual recruiting
publication. Top level NCAA college experience is a
must. HS, college or professional coaching experience
is a strong plus. Current professional MLL or NLL players
and coaches are encouraged to contact them. Sorry, no
current college (NCAA or club) players or coaches per
NCAA regulations. All positions are part time. Individuals
that apply must be professional, responsible, detail
focused and have a four-year college degree. If you
are interested, Lax Scout asks that you please submit
your full lacrosse and work resume to
info@laxscout.com along with a cover letter explaining
why you would like to join their team.
