MLL MVP Goalie: Greg Catrano--Most important
quality for a goalie
July 1, 2003
Hey, Greg Cattrano, what do you
think is the most important quality a goalie must have?
from Lars A. of Helgoland, Germany
Greg Cattrano:
Thanks for the question Lars.
I believe there are two important qualities a goalie
must possess to be successful at any level. The first
one being aggressiveness. All goalies must be as aggressive
as possible when attempting to make a save. A passive
goalie turns into a frustrated goalie. When a shot is
taken, attack that ball rather than wait for the ball
to get to you. Simply stepping can be lazy. Go get that
ball.
The second skill a goalie must possess is the ability
to remain calm after allowing goals. Lacrosse is a high
scoring sport and goalies face adversity at all times.
Success is obtained by facing adversity with courage
after allowing goals. Free your mind of all goals scored,
remain mentally tough and focus on the next shot. Never
put your head down or allow the other team to see you
frustrated. You must remain stronger than your opposition.
