New Jersey's Joe ceglia: Devloping long-stick
middie skills August 11, 2003

To stand out and be an exceptional long-stick middie you
need to be able to do a couple of things. For one, you
need to have excellent stick skills, not only catching
and throwing but ground balls as well. Getting ground
balls and the ability to handle the stick are important
for a long pole because this will enable you to start
transition and make some exciting plays.
Second, quick feet are important. The ability to move
with an offensive player for as long as possible without
crossing your feet will lead to better defensive angles
and a greater ability to throw checks on the run. To
improve my footwork, I play a lot of basketball and
jump rope. To improve these skills requires hours of
playing wall ball or having a catch with friends.
