Jay Jalbert on what is the most important
trait for a middie
July 6, 2003
Hey, Jay Jalbert, what is the most
important trait for a middie to have in order to be successful?
from Chris J. of Abbeville, Louisiana

Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to write to us and supporting
Major League Lacrosse. There a few things I feel help
a midfielder stand out on the field and help his team
win.
First, have polished stick skills. This doesn't mean
you need to be able to throw behind the back with both
hands. It means you need to be effective with your stick.
Shooting both hands on the run, scooping through ground
balls, great ball handle in traffic, etc.
Second, play hard. When you are on the field, give
it your all. It's not just about trying when the ball
is in your stick. For middies it's about helping your
team at both ends of the field.
Third, be in shape. I believe that this is the most
important. All these things I talked about can not be
possible unless you are fit. There is no worse feeling
than not being able to perform at your highest level
because you are exhausted.
