PEPPERELL -- The North Middlesex Youth Lacrosse community gathered on Saturday night at the Pepperell V.F.W. for their first-annual silent auction fundraiser. The turnout was fantastic, with the hall filled to capacity.

The fundraiser's main objective was to fund junior varsity lacrosse teams. North Middlesex Youth Lacrosse now needs the school committee's approval to field girls and boys high school teams in the spring of 2004.

North Middlesex Youth Lacrosse's founding father, Burke Bero, was saluted in a special ceremony given by high school-aged boys players. Mr. Bero was thanked for his many years of service to North Middlesex Youth Lacrosse, and he pointed out the youth lacrosse program's phenomenal growth.

Also recognized for starting the girls' lacrosse program was Rick Terrio. Several high school-aged girls thanked Mr. Terrio and shared special stories about his coaching abilities, and the impact lacrosse has had on them.

Both Mr. Bero and Mr. Terrio were visibly moved by these well-deserved presentations.
